Steven J. Atkinson is a partner with the HARRISON PENSA's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group.  He was also one of the firm's Co-managing Partners for the better part of the last decade until stepping down in May of 2022. Steve always had a diverse litigation practice and has more than 30 years experience. He works with individuals and corporations of all sizes, and has been successful before all levels of the Courts in Ontario.  Year after year, Steve is recognized by his peers in both "Best Lawyers in Canada" (insurance law and ADR)  and "Canadian L'expert Directory".

In fact, "Best Lawyers in Canada" announced that Steve was elected as "LAWYER OF THE YEAR" for insurance law for the London/Windsor Region for 2024. 

Historically, Steve's mediation practice took him all over the Province of Ontario.  Since the Covid-19 Pandemic, the majority of the mediations are taking place on-line and Steve is comfortable using any of the more commonly used virtual platforms.  He is often hired to act as a Mediator to assist with disputes regarding a variety of issues including personal injury (tort/accident benefits), disability and life insurance, professional negligence claims and a broad range of commercial/contractual disputes.

During the mediation process, he is able to use his diverse experience as a counsel for both Plaintiffs and Defendants, as well as his training at the Harvard Negotiation Institute to help the parties engage in a constructive discussion of the relevant issues. His mediation clients often comment on his tenacity and willingness to work hard to find a way to get claims resolved.  He has now conducted in excess of 850 mediations as a mediator.
