Biographical

I am one of the original partners at the firm of Dumoulin Boskovich LLP where I was a senior litigator for over 30 years. Currently, I am an Associate Counsel at that firm. I was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1970, commenced my mediation practice in 1987 and my arbitration practice in 1991.

I have mediated thousands of civil cases including personal injury claims, professional negligence lawsuits, Law Society fee disputes,  insurance disputes, wrongful dismissals, product liability lawsuits, construction and real estate disputes, strata property disputes, and business and partnership matters including family business issues and will and estate disputes.

I have mediated a number of class action cases prior to and after Court certification of the class. The most recent involved a major class action against a U.S. Pharmaceutical Company. I have arbitrated over one hundred cases mainly as a single arbitrator but also as a member of threeperson tribunal. I have also conducted "Med-Arbs".

In 2012, I was one of two adjudicators appointed by the Chief Justice of the British Columbia Supreme Court to adjudicate class action claims being made by former patients of a Provincial Institution. I did this assignment for two years.

Education

I received a BA and LLB from the University of British Columbia.

In 1986, I first qualified as a Mediator at the Justice Institute of British Columbia. Over the course of my ADR career I have taken formal training in mediation, workshops and courses including the Mediation Program at Osgoode Hall Law School, and the Program of Negotiation and Mediation at Harvard Law School. I attended numerous educational conferences sponsored by Continuing Education in Canada but
also in the USA including those put on by the American Bar (ADR Subsection) and the Research Institute.

Annually, I teach commercial mediation to law students at a British Columbia Bar admission course called PLTC. I also coach a CLE course, the Fundamentals of Mediation. Over the years, I have spoken on the topic of ADR at numerous CLEs and conferences, including the Medical/Legal Conference in Mexico in 2006, put on by the Trial Lawyers of British Columbia (TLBC) and in Berlin Germany at the 2015 World Mediation Symposium.

Memberships & Affiliations

I served as a Director for six years of the BC Roster Society (now called Mediate BC). I was a member of the Personal Injury Working Committee of the Civil Resolution Tribunal.

Presently, I am listed on Mediate BC roster of commercial mediators, and on the panel of Mediators and Arbitrators of the British Columbia's International Commercial Arbitration Centre (BCICAC).

Since Covid 19, I have developed considerable experience in doing Virtual Mediations.
